Mahindra Racing
Tyre Science Engineer is responsible for developing tyre models, conducting in-depth research and analysis on tyre performance, and providing technical expertise to optimise tyre performance in motorsport applications. The role is crucial in enhancing the overall performance and competitiveness of race performance team.
Responsibilities:
- Support the development, implementation and parametrisation of tyre models and simulation tools to predict tyre behaviour and optimise vehicle setup.
- Utilise advanced testing equipment and techniques to evaluate tyre performance under various conditions, such as different track surfaces, weather conditions, and vehicle setups.
- Create test plans, analyse and interpret data collected from tyre testing, track simulations, and real-world racing scenarios to identify areas for improvement and develop strategies to enhance tyre performance.
- Conduct extensive analysis on tyre performance, including grip, wear, temperature, and degradation characteristics.
- Work closely with the race engineering team to provide technical guidance and recommendations on tyre selection, pressures, and strategies during race events.
- Document and present research findings, technical reports, and recommendations to the management team and stakeholders.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in tyre technology, industry trends, and regulations to ensure compliance and competitive advantage.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
- In-depth knowledge of tyre science, including tyre dynamics, compound formulations, and performance characteristics.
- Proven experience as a Tyre Science Engineer or in a similar role within the motorsport industry considered a strong asset.
- Previous experience with physical tyre models such as, brush model, RMOD-K, is considered advantageous.
- Proficiency in using advanced tyre testing equipment and software, such as force and moment sensors, thermal imaging, and data acquisition systems is considered advantageous.
- Previous experience with MATLAB, Python and/or C/C++ is considered advantageous.
- Previous experience with ATLAS is considered advantageous.
- Familiarity with motorsport regulations and technical specifications related to tyre usage.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced motorsport environment.
