Our Team
Since the 2026 season, Audi has been competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship.
The new team has three locations. The Motorsport Competence Center of Audi in Neuburg (Germany) is considered one of the most modern of its kind in Europe. The Formula 1 factory of Audi Motorsport AG in Hinwil (Switzerland) is known for its innovative technologies and passion for racing. The Audi Motorsport Technology Center in UK is in its launch phase and growing continuously. Our Power Unit comes from Neuburg, while Hinwil is responsible for the development of the chassis and race operations.
What you need? The mindset of an athlete. If you are someone for whom giving up isn’t an option and limits are just something to be overcome, you can bring Vorsprung durch Technik to Formula 1 with us. Become part of this unique project and make motorsport history.
This position is to be filled at Audi Formula Racing GmbH in Neuburg (Germany).
As a development engineer in the field of single-cylinder testing, you are an active driver of the combustion and mechanical performance of our F1 power unit. You are responsible for the experimental validation, assessment, and further development of combustion processes and engine concepts within a closed development loop between the test bench, CFD, and system simulation. Your work has a direct impact on determining which concepts progress into the full engine—and which do not.
Your Mission
- Independent planning, definition, execution, and evaluation of highly dynamic test programs on single-cylinder and component test benches, with a clear focus on performance and efficiency
- Responsibility for the complete test bench and measurement chain operations, including setup, validation, and continuous optimization of sensor and indicating systems
- Development of innovative concepts to increase performance and improve efficiency
- Execution and in-depth analysis of indicated combustion data (cylinder pressure, heat release, IMEP, friction components, gas exchange losses), including physically consistent interpretation
- Identification of performance limitations and systematic derivation of development measures based on data-driven analysis
- Setup, maintenance, and continuous improvement of a robust database with clear test-to-test and hardware-to-software correlation
- Active feedback of test results into CFD and 0D/1D models, including evaluation and calibration of boundary conditions (boundary conditions, turbulence, wall and combustion models, spray/combustion correlation)
- Close technical alignment with CFD and simulation teams for targeted model improvement based on experimental findings
- Further development and automation of evaluation and testing processes (e.g., MATLAB/Python/Concerto) to maximize test efficiency and information density per test run
- Clear, technically robust documentation of results with unambiguous development decisions and recommendations for action
Your Profile
- You have a completed technical degree (mechanical engineering, internal combustion engines, applied thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, or a comparable field); a Master’s/Diploma or PhD is preferred
- A structured, analytical, and solution-oriented way of working distinguishes you
- You already have demonstrable experience operating single-cylinder or highly dynamic engine test benches within a development environment
- A deep understanding of combustion analysis based on indicated data as well as thermodynamic evaluation is part of your skill set
- You are proficient in handling test benches and evaluation systems (e.g., Concerto, ATLAS, or comparable systems)
- Very good programming skills in MATLAB and/or Python, which you confidently use for data analysis and automation
- You interpret measured data physically correctly and derive well-founded development decisions from it
- You bring experience in the interfaces between testing and simulation (CFD / 0D / 1D), particularly in validating and correcting model assumptions and boundary conditions
- You work in a structured and precise manner with a high level of personal responsibility
- You remain resilient in the engine prototype environment even under high development and time pressure
- You demonstrate strong flexibility and commitment
- You have very good English skills; German skills are an advantage
- Ideally, you have experience in the development of combustion processes and gas exchange in modern high-performance engines
- An understanding of boosting, injection, and ignition systems in highly dynamic operation is an advantage
- Experience in identifying friction and loss mechanisms at the system level is desirable
- Ideally, you have experience in data-driven model calibration (CFD / 1D / 0D)
- Knowledge of automated test bench and testing processes would be a plus
