About leomax engineering

leomax engineering supports high-level GT racing programs with trackside engineering services. We work where robust systems, clean data, and fast analysis make the difference - both for performance and scrutineering compliance.

Your role

As a System & Data Engineer, you will take ownership of scrutineering data logger systems used mainly in GT3 and GT4 categories and execute data analysis for performance engineering and scrutineering. You will also have the opportunity to create new analysis methods and automated checks, supported by our AI team, and to develop our SDL (scrutineering data logger) systems further by implementing your own ideas.

A key part of the role is working off-track with car manufacturers to prepare CAN communication between SDL and the car ECU, and working trackside with teams to ensure smooth operation and rapid problem-solving.

Responsibilities

Operate and maintain scrutineering data logger systems (SDL): setup, configuration, validation, troubleshooting.
Liaise with car manufacturers (off track) to prepare and validate CAN communication between SDL and car ECUs (requirements, channel mapping, message definitions, integration testing).
Trackside support (at least 50%): ensure smooth SDL operation, fast troubleshooting, and clear communication with teams under time pressure.
Drive continuous improvement of SDL systems: implement your own ideas, enhance reliability, streamline workflows, and introduce new functionality.
Ensure data integrity and reliable workflows: acquisition, backups, structured storage, and delivery.
Perform data analysis for performance and scrutineering topics (signal checks, event detection, anomaly finding, limit/threshold monitoring, correlation).
Develop and maintain analysis tools/scripts to automate checks, reporting, and recurring tasks.
Collaborate with an AI team to design and implement new analysis approaches (automation, pattern detection, smarter reporting).
Support root-cause investigations (sensor plausibility, CAN/channel mapping issues, logging gaps, unexpected behavior).
Document procedures (checklists, configurations, SOPs) and continuously improve processes.

Requirements

  • Experience in motorsport data engineering or high-frequency telemetry/logging environments.
  • Strong understanding of data logging systems and sensor signal chains; confidence working with CAN and ECU/vehicle interfaces.
  • Solid analysis skills and attention to detail (scrutineering requires precision).
  • Programming/scripting skills (typically Python; MATLAB also welcome).
  • Willingness and ability to work trackside at least 50% (including weekends/travel).
  • Strong communication skills - comfortable coordinating with manufacturers and race teams.
  • Structured, proactive working style and strong problem-solving mindset.

Nice to have

  • Trackside experience in GT3/GT4 and/or endurance racing operations.
  • Experience with CAN databases, decoding, channel mapping, automated reporting, dashboards, Git, SQL/time-series tooling.
  • Familiarity with scrutineering processes and compliance documentation.
  • Interest in AI-assisted analytics, automation, and tooling.

We offer

  • A full-time role based in Cadolzburg near Nürnberg with significant trackside responsibility.
  • High-impact work in top-level GT racing, combining systems ownership and deep analysis.
  • Room to shape and evolve our SDL systems with your own technical ideas and improvements.
  • Direct support from an AI team to help you build new analysis and automation faster.
  • A small, expert team with fast decision-making and high standards.
  • Competitive compensation depending on experience, plus travel/per-diem where applicable.
  • Freedom to build tools and processes that improve reliability, speed, and scrutineering readiness.
