Role: Strategy Engineer - IMSA

Where: BMW M Team WRT GTP Programme

Program : GTP Programme, USA

The Strategy Engineer-IMSA will be the primary on all strategy decisions, calls, planning, and analysis for the BMW WRT IMSA GTP Program.  This is a full time role that will involve work needed before, during, and after all of the IMSA races.  Travel will be required to all IMSA races.  Specific duties will include:  pre-event analysis and preparation, preparation and presentation of pre-event strategy work to the team, real-time race day strategy planning, analysis, and decision making, direct communication and teamwork with the primary race engineers, and post event analysis.

 

The duties of the Strategy Engineer will include:

 

Pre Event

-        History – Previous year race review

-        Tyre Modelling

-        BOP – Summary & Sensitivity

-        Event specific strategic numbers

-        Optimized tire and energy strategy

-        Weather

 

Event (Lead Up to Race)

-        Lead on information gathering, practice/qualifying plans, briefings and documentation

 

Practice/Qualifying

-        Tyre Analysis & Modelling

-        Tyre strategy overview through the use of different compounds

-        Lead on Pre-Race Briefing & Documentation

 

Race

-        Preferred option and viable alternatives for race strategy

-        Analyse Risks and opportunities for possible calls

-        Communication with Race Engineers

-        Real-time and quick decision making on calls to make

 

Post Event

-        Numerical Analysis

-        Reporting and Presentations

 

The Strategy Engineer should have the following desired skillsets and experience: 

 

-        5+ years IMSA or WEC strategy experience at the GTP/LMDh level (preferred) or GT level.

-        Strategy experience in sprint and endurance type races.

-        On track experience making “race day” calls/decisions in the heat of a race.

-        Experience with HH Timing and HH DM.

-        Familiarity with motorsport data systems (e.g., telemetry, timing, CAN data, Pi Toolbox, Bosch, or Magneti Marelli systems)  preferred.

-        As a desirable trait, experience in the use of AI or data science methodologies for the use of data analysis

-        Hands on approach with a flexible “Can Do” & “Will Do” attitude.

-        Flexible with workload and tight deadline

-        Knowledge of English required, notions of German considered as a bonus.
