We are looking to recruit an experienced, skilled & passionate engineer to join our championship winning FIA Formula 2 team and act as the lead Simulation Engineer. Working alongside the Race and Performance Engineers, the successful candidate will have overall responsibility for the team’s offline simulation and will take ownership of model development and correlation – as well as maintaining and improving software tools for simulation and reporting. This position is predominantly based at the team’s Norfolk workshop but will include some travel and trackside work at official F2 test events.

 

Role & Responsibilities

  • Own and develop the F2 vehicle physics models
  • Calibration of model parameters from real-world data
  • Develop tools for correlation, data analysis and optimisation
  • Collaborate with trackside engineers to apply the tools and identify improvements to models and processes
  • Pre-event reporting on track sensitivities, initial build specifications & expected performance
  • Post & during event correlation studies

 

Qualifications & Experience
Essential:

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering or numerate discipline
  • Demonstrable experience developing & implementing mathematical models in a simulation environment
  • Experience with programming languages (e.g. Matlab, Python, C etc.)
  • Strong understanding of race car systems (suspension, aerodynamics, powertrain, tyres)
  • Motorsport specific experience with simulation tools (e.g. ChassisSim, VSM, Canopy etc)

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualification in a relevant discipline, especially Motorsport or Automotive Engineering
  • Proficiency with motorsport data analysis software (e.g. Toolbox, i2, Wintax etc)
  • Expertise in vehicle dynamics and/or tyre modelling
  • Expertise in applied mathematics, ideally in several of the following areas: mathematical modelling, optimisation, parallelisation, iterative solvers, non-linear state estimation, or statistics
