The role

Triple Eight Race Engineering is looking for a Race Engineer to join our Supercars engineering team. You will be responsible for the race engineering of a specific race car, working with the driver and the wider engineering group to turn data, simulation and testing into measurable lap time.

This is a full-time, trackside role covering every Supercars event and additional testing, alongside workshop-based analysis, simulation and development work between events.

Key responsibilities

  • Vehicle performance and setup
  • Contribute to the vehicle performance and development of the race car, developing and optimising vehicle setup and vehicle systems.
  • Engineer the car at race events and tests, including run plans, setup decisions and debriefs.
  • Maintain the legality and compliance of the car with Supercars technical regulations.
  • Build a strong working relationship with the driver, combining their feedback with data to guide setup direction.

Analysis, simulation and correlation

  • Analyse vehicle data from testing and racing to identify performance opportunities.
  • Use simulation, statistical analysis and modelling to investigate vehicle behaviour and predict performance.
  • Correlate simulation, rig testing and track results, and feed findings back into the vehicle models.
  • Translate analysis into measurable lap time and performance improvements.
  • Plan and execute track tests and experiments, including defining test objectives and instrumentation.

Team and capability

  • Work cross-functionally with design, simulation, testing and the wider engineering groups.
  • Develop junior engineers and contribute to the team's engineering capability.
  • Working relationships
  • You will work closely with drivers, the car crews, data engineers, the Head of Performance and the Technical Director, as well as the larger team.

About you - Essential

  • A degree in mechanical, automotive, mechatronic or a related engineering discipline.
  • Motorsport experience in a professional engineering role, such as Race Engineering or Performance Engineering.
  • Strong understanding of vehicle dynamics - tyres, kinematics, aerodynamics and powertrain, and how they interact with setup.
  • Strong data interpretation, analysis and numerical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to build a strong relationship with a driver.
  • Sound decision-making under pressure in a fast-paced team environment.

Desirable

  • Experience with vehicle dynamics simulation, lap time simulation or driver-in-the-loop simulators.
  • Programming experience and experience with statistics or machine learning.
  • Working knowledge of Supercars technical regulations.
  • Motorsport data experience, particularly MoTeC.
  • A postgraduate qualification in motorsport engineering or vehicle dynamics.
