Race Engineer

Pace Performance are competing at the sharp end of the GB4 Championship and the Ginetta Junior Championship and need a race engineer who can extract performance from cost-capped junior single-seaters.

Our Race Engineer will be the technical lead across all GB4 cars, owning performance, reliability, and communication from preparation to parc fermé, as well as overseeing the engineering for the Ginetta Junior cars.

Key Responsibilities

Event preparation:

  • Build run plans, test matrices and setup baselines, request parts and track kit.
  • Analyse historic data/video to define objectives and performance targets.
  • Create scrutineering paperwork, setup sheets and fuel/pressure calcs.

Trackside engineering:

  • Lead all sessions: manage tyres, pressures, cambers/toe, damper/aero changes, rake/ride heights, diff/preload (where applicable).
  • Turn driver feedback into actionable setup changes—know the difference between a complaint and a problem.
  • Strategy calls for qualifying & races (track position, out-laps, traffic, cooldowns).
  • Run the car with the number one mechanic; oversee build quality and sign-off.
  • Liaise with officials on regs, parc fermé and any technical directives.

Performance & analysis:

  • Data and video: log configuration, sensor sanity checks, channel maths, sector analysis, driver coaching notes.
  • Correlate driver comments with data.
  • Produce end-session and end-event reports with clear next steps.

Post-event:

  • Lead debriefs; maintain car history, setup database and parts lifeing.
  • Plan next tests, close out reliability actions with mechanics and parts suppliers.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Degree in Mechanical/Automotive/Motorsport Engineering or proven race-engineering experience in single-seaters (GB4/F4/Formula Ford or similar).
  • Strong data skills with typical junior-formula toolchains (e.g. AIM Race Studio, Toolbox and video VBOX Cosworth, Atlas, Pi Toolbox, Motec, etc.).
  • Competence with chassis setup fundamentals.
  • Calm communication with young drivers and busy parents. Direct, fair, and unflappable.
  • UK trackside availability most weekends in season; full UK driving licence; right to work in the UK

Conditions

  • Office based position on non-race weeks at Pace Performance.
  • Extensive travel, trackside position.
  • Remote working day(s) possibility after trial period.
  • Competitive salary, dependent on profile and background.
