Our team

Audi has been competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship since the 2026 season. The new team has three locations. The Audi Motorsport Competence Center in Neuburg, Germany, is considered one of the most modern of its kind in Europe. The Formula 1 Factory of Audi Motorsport AG in Hinwil, Switzerland, is known for its innovative technologies and its passion for racing. The Audi Motorsport Technology Center in the United Kingdom is in its initial phase and is growing steadily.

Our power unit comes from Neuburg, while Hinwil is responsible for chassis development and race operations. What do you need? The mindset of an athlete. If you are someone for whom giving up is not an option and limits are simply something to be overcome, you can help us bring Vorsprung durch Technik (Progress through Technology) to Formula 1. Become part of this unique project and make motorsport history.

This position is available at Audi Formula Racing GmbH in Neuburg, Germany. As a Power Unit Performance Developer, your work on highly complex test benches, state-of-the-art Hardware-in-the-Loop (HiL) systems, dynamic driving simulators (DiL), and race support from Mission Control will significantly contribute to the project's success. You will be involved in developing a high-performance and highly efficient hybrid drive system within the highly competitive Formula 1 motorsport environment, and your ideas can shave those crucial tenths of a second off the clock in qualifying!

Your tasks

  • Link between the areas of internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid system (ERS), standard ECU (SECU), transmission and hydraulics with a focus on performance, testing and development.
  • Definition, development and support of strategies for energy management and fuel saving with colleagues from operational strategy simulation and software development, taking into account and fully utilizing the regulations.
  • Alignment of theoretical requirements with the practical needs of the drivers together with racing and performance engineers at the racetrack.
  • Monitoring and analysis of powertrain performance during testing on test benches, HiL/DiL and during tests and races (Mission Control Room)
  • Conducting tests and simulations to improve the efficiency and reliability of the powertrain (powertrain test bench)
  • Tracking performance development throughout the season
  • Documentation and analysis of errors and their correction

Your profile

  • You have successfully completed a technical or scientific degree or a doctorate, e.g. in mechanical engineering, automotive engineering or aerospace engineering.
  • You have sound knowledge of data analysis and evaluation.
  • You have extensive experience in the application of ECU software.
  • You also have experience in the field of combustion engine software and a good understanding of high-performance engines.
  • A good understanding of the moment distribution in hybrid systems is one of your strengths.
  • You have a deep understanding of the driving dynamics of racing vehicles as well as the key influencing parameters of the powertrain.
  • You have already gained experience using McLaren/Motion Applied ATLAS, System Monitor and vTAG.
  • You have knowledge of Matlab/Simulink, ideally in conjunction with McLaren/Motion Applied TAG ECUs
  • You are familiar with the technical and sporting Formula 1 regulations.
  • You work analytically, systematically and independently, and at the same time possess strong teamwork and coordination skills.
  • Even in time-critical situations, you remain resilient and able to make decisions.
  • You have fluent technical English skills and are willing to learn German.
