Modelling and Simulation Engineer 

Mahindra Racing

Mahindra Racing is a motor racing team based in Banbury, United Kingdom, competing with an Indian racing license. The team is currently competing in the electric FIA Formula E Championship since the inaugural season in 2014.

 

Role Overview:

The Modelling and Simulation Engineer is responsible for developing, maintaining and improving simulation tools and vehicle models to support race performance, car development and engineering decisions. Working closely with race engineers, vehicle performance engineers and software engineers, the role provides accurate simulation data to optimise car setup, energy management and overall vehicle performance throughout the Formula E season.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and correlate mathematical models (including simulator and simulation results with track and R&D data
  • Develop and improve analysis and simulation tools
  • Support Race Engineering with simulation and data analysis before, during and after race and test events
  • Analyse track and R&D data and produce reports on findings 
  • Investigate potential mechanical and controls upgrades through concept studies and simulation
  • Qualifications, skills and experience required
  • Strong background in applied mathematics and physics (MSc/Meng)
  • Able to derive basic models from first principles
  • Solid understanding of vehicle dynamics
  • Competent at running vehicle model simulations and interpreting the results
  • Able to use MATLAB/Simulink and Python independently 
  • Knowledge of MESL suite (ATLAS, vTAG, System Monitor)
  • Prior experience with C/C++ would be an advantage
  • Motorsport experience (FE/F1/WEC in particular) highly desirable
