General Summary:

This position reports to the Heritage Lead Mechanic or their designee; is located in Banbury, UK. Responsible for the assembly, servicing and repair of the team’s Race Cars, Heritage Cars, Show Cars, associated parts, and pit equipment. Expected to attend all Heritage Car associated events.

This role will require extensive travel outside the UK with approximately fifteen events per year. 

 

General Responsibilities:

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  • Responsible for the build, condition, and maintenance of all Heritage cars.
  • Mentor, train, and guide personnel as required. Develop staff and department processes to enable efficient workflow.
  • Demonstrate a company focused attitude to organize and guide your team whilst keeping moral high under difficult circumstances or tight deadlines.
  • Report reliability issues as they occur and seek advice before undertaking any out of the ordinary tasks.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness and condition of your work
  • Follow Engineering procedures and protocols pertaining to assembly, operation, and safety as dictated by the Haas F1 Team.
  • Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
  • Assumes any responsibilities and duties delegated by the Heritage Lead Mechanic or their designee.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the assembly of the team’s Heritage cars to the correct specifications and allocations.
  • Responsible for the allocation and service life tracking of car parts fitted to Heritage cars, in alignment with the RTS Chief Mechanic and current car allocations.
  • Managing stock levels of components, spares, and consumables, working closely with both Race Team and Race Team Support to ensure minimum trackside quantities are always met.
  • Align with the Heritage Lead Mechanic to ensure all relevant specs of sub-assembly components are packed or built in readiness for Heritage events.
  • Responsible for the parts, spare parts, tooling, garage equipment, and other operational equipment associated with Heritage projects, and ensuring all equipment is readily available and packed to support relevant events.
  • Work closely with the DO and Reliability teams on Faults to ensure all actions/remedies are in place and to offer solutions/fixes or plans to ensure there are no repeat occurrences.
  • Have a good understanding of all car parts, process, and procedures.
  • Follow lifing and UIIL requirements to ensure full compliance is met in line with the regulations and team’s expectations – this includes having the Heritage Car’s built correctly on to relevant lifing systems.
  • Assist and support chosen departments to facilitate Turnarounds, Engineering Projects, Car Builds and Event Support.
  • Assist in the planning and management of any rig testing throughout the season, such as K&C or 7 Post.
  • Ensure the team’s Show Cars and Race Bay presentation meets cooperate branding guidelines and expectations.
  • Expected to undertake NDT training and certification to be able to support on event if required.
  • Support the Race Team and RTS Departments when required.

 

Education and Work Experience:

  • GCSE, High School diploma or equivalent required. Further education including trade school, appreciating or university degree desired.
  • Previous experience in a similar mechanical role within Formula 1, World Sports Cars, or F2 is preferred.
  • Demonstrable professionalism and a strong record of service within the Motorsport Industry are highly beneficial.
  • Strong problem solving, logical thinking with research and reporting skills are essential.

 

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • A comprehensive mechanical understanding gained in Formula 1 motor racing.
  • An ability to read and interpret technical drawings and information pertaining to assembly, periodic updates, and modifications.
  • The ability to consistently work to the highest standards with an exceptional attention to deta
  • Basic fabrication and machining skills.
  • A sympathetic approach to your work colleagues and an ability to integrate within a group environment.
  • A can-do positive approach and a willingness to help others is essential.
  • Communication, ability to work under pressure, self-motivation, time management, conflict resolution, adaptability, willingness to learn, etc.

 

 Equipment and Applications:

  • Solid computer knowledge, preferred experience in Microsoft Office products, Microsoft Dynamics AX and 3DX
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to follow complex regulations related to shipment of materials and facility maintenance requirements.

 

Work Environment Physical Demands:

An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require extensive domestic and international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.

 

This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
