Role Description

As a Data Engineer within Algarve Pro Racing’s multi-championship LMP2 programme (ELMS, IMSA, Asian Le Mans Series), you will play a key role in supporting the race engineering team both at the track and in the workshop. Working alongside race, performance, and systems engineers, you will contribute to strategy execution, data analysis, systems management, and the continuous improvement of team engineering tools and processes.

This role is designed for a motivated engineer looking to develop toward a full Race, Performance, or Systems Engineering position. It requires strong analytical capabilities, a proactive mindset, and the ability to operate in a high-pressure, international motorsport environment.

Key Responsibilities

Trackside Responsibilities

  • Assist Race and Performance Engineers during practice, qualifying, and race sessions across ELMS, IMSA, and ALMS.
  • Monitor competitor strategies, pit stop windows, and live race data to support strategic decision-making.
  • Perform pit stop execution analysis and produce tyre, fuel, and stint performance reports.
  • Manage telemetry systems, car data acquisition, and scrutineering file uploads.
  • Manage systems and control setup changes through Caltool and Toolset.

Electronic systems management

  • Take ownership of the electronics inventory..
  • Maintain hardware, wiring, and stock accross multiple championships.
  • Liaise with external suppliers for upgrades, troubleshooting, and stock refill.
  • Document all configurations and manage related access credentials.

Workshop & Infrastructure Role

  • Produce detailed pre- and post-event engineering reports.
  • Support the evolution of data analysis tools, macros, and automated reporting systems.
  • Maintain engineering equipment, sensors, servers, network devices, and consumables.
  • Ensure that all data, video, and documentation from trackside systems is transferred and archived into the central NAS.
  • Prepare race kit systems (data stations, intercoms, server racks, timing & TV cabling) for freight and deployment.

Desired Skill Set

Qualifications & Technical Skills

  • Degree in Motorsport, Mechanical, Electrical, or Systems Engineering.
  • Understanding of motorsport data analysis (e.g. Pi Toolbox, Wintax, Motec i2, WinDarab).
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, VBA, MATLAB, Python, or C-based programming is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of basic networking, server systems, or AV equipment is preferred.

Motorsport Experience

  • Previous involvement in single-seaters, GT, or prototype programmes (F4/F3/F2/GT4/GT3/LMP3/LMP2) is beneficial.
  • Familiarity with pit stop operations, telemetry systems, and endurance racing procedures is an advantage.

Personal Attributes

  • Detail-oriented and highly organised, with strong technical discipline.
  • Positive “can do” attitude with a strong sense of teamwork and responsibility.
  • Willingness to travel extensively across Europe, the Middle East, and North America.
