Pace Performance are competing at the sharp end of the GB4 and Ginetta Junior Championships and need a Chief Mechanic / Junior Race Engineer (combined position) who can extract performance from cost-capped junior racing categories.
The Combined position (Chief Mechanic / Junior Race Engineer) will work within the Ginetta Categories and focus on Ginetta Juniors, Ginetta GTA and Ginetta GTP8. The Chief Mechanic / Junior Race engineer will work along side the permanent Race Engineer to ensure cars are prepared and engineered to the required standard.
Key Responsibilities:
Event preparation:
- Build run plans, test matrices and setup baselines, request parts and track kit.
- Analyse historic data/video to define objectives and performance targets.
- Create scrutineering paperwork, setup sheets and fuel/pressure calcs.
Trackside engineering:
- Lead all sessions: manage tyres, pressures, cambers/toe, damper/aero changes, rake/ride heights, diff/preload (where applicable).
- Turn driver feedback into actionable setup changes—know the difference between a complaint and a problem.
- Strategy calls for qualifying & races (track position, out-laps, traffic, cooldowns).
- Liaise with officials on regs, parc fermé and any technical directives.
Performance & analysis:
- Data and video: log configuration, sensor sanity checks, channel maths, sector analysis, driver coaching notes.
- Correlate driver comments with data.
Workshop & Trackside Chief Mechanic:
- Run the cars with the number one mechanics; oversee build quality and sign-off.
- Mentor Number 1 and Number 2 Mechanics to implement the required processes and procedures.
- Lead Test and Race weekend Ginett Team activities.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Experience in Mechanical/Automotive/Motorsport Engineering with proven Chief Mechanic experience in single-seaters, or GT Cars, or similar
- Strong data skills with typical junior-formula toolchains (e.g. AIM Race Studio, video VBOX)
- Calm communication with young drivers and busy parents. Direct, fair, and unflappable.
- Strong grasp of vehicle/mechanical dynamics with meticulous attention to detail.
- Calm under pressure with sound, timely decision-making.
- Collaborative team player who lifts those around them.
- Clear, confident communicator with drivers, engineers and stakeholders.
- Fully flexible and willing to travel throughout the season, including at short notice.
- Full UK driving licence (towing experience an advantage)
