Vehicle Scientist / Senior Vehicle Scientist

Mahindra Racing

Mahindra Racing is a motor racing team based in Banbury, United Kingdom, competing with an Indian racing licence. The team is currently competing in the electric FIA Formula E Championship since the inaugural season in 2014

 

Role Overview:
We require an experienced Vehicle Scientist to join our Vehicle Performance Group to develop the performance of our current and future race cars.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Optimise mechanical and systems setup of the car.
  • Provide development direction for the mechanical performance of future cars.
  • Develop and improve the fidelity of our vehicle models for offline and real-time simulation.
  • Create and develop associated tools for analysing and understanding car and model performance.
  • Plan and attend rig, DIL simulator and track tests as needed.


Qualifications, skills and experience required:
Essential:

  • A degree in a related discipline.
  • Understanding of vehicle dynamics and suspension systems, ideally applied to race cars.
  • Development of vehicle and vehicle system models for real time and offline simulation.
  • Modelling in Matlab/Simulink.
  • Appreciation of multibody simulation
  • Calibration and correlation of models from rig and track test data.
  • Use of lap time simulation tools.
  • Planning and implementation of rig and track test programs.

 

Desirable:

  • Canopy.
  • Race car suspension design.
  • Understanding and experience of:

              a. Race car suspension design.
              b. Vehicle dynamic control systems.
              c. Tyre science and physical tyre models.
              d. Aerodynamics.

  • Software development including additional programming languages, e.g. Python, C++, C# etc.
  • Motorsport and/or trackside experience.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English
  • Works methodically with attention to detail
  • Leads by example, can and will motivate his/her team & peers
  • Personal flexibility to work hours as required including from time to time working in weekends
  • Practical approach by using rigorous logic and methods to solve problems with effective solutions
