 Role Overview: 

Primary function is to implement the correct Vehicle Dynamics Principles in all programmes of the NIO Performance Group, with initial primary focus on Formula E.


Main Responsibilities:

Guarantee the correct implementation of the fundamentals of Vehicle Dynamics into the initial design and development process of a Formula E Race Car by using typical Multibody Analysis and/or Matlab tools.

Define, Develop, Optimize and Validate the Performance Targets for the (Rear) Suspension Package/Layout within the given constraints of the FIA Formula E Technical Regulations in close co-operation with the Mechanical Design Department and our selected technical partners & suppliers.

Guide and Support the DIL & Systems Simulation Engineers with broad Vehicle Dynamics Know-How in order to extract the maximum performance potential out of Car / Aerodynamics & Tyre Package.

Support/Co-Operate with the Race & Test Team, the Electronic Control & Systems Department and Performance Engineering to maximize Race Performance during the season. Analyse & Verify Data.


Qualifications, skills and experience required:

  • Degree level academic background in engineering, computer sciences or related academic subjects.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the automotive field of Vehicle Dynamics. Motorsport experience is not essential but highly recommended.
  • Excellent MBA Tool knowledge and thorough understanding of the influence of Suspension K&C Parameters on full vehicle behaviour. Rich knowledge on Suspension Architectures.
  • Excellent understanding and application of Matlab and/or other typically used vehicle dynamics simulation software and/or data processing tools. Understanding Ride Tools is beneficial.
  • Establish Test & Validation plans for on-track verification of specific performance parameters.
  • Thorough understanding of (Slick) Tyre Characteristics & Tyre Simulation Modelling Techniques.
  • Experience with (3D/MBA) DIL Simulators is beneficial.
  • Practical approach by using rigorous logic and methods to solve problems with effective solutions.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Works methodically with great attention to detail. Takes full ownership of requested tasks.

  • Personal flexibility to work hours as required including from time to time working in weekends.
