Senior Design Engineer

We are looking to find an outstanding engineer who wishes to further their career as a design engineer in high performance engineering. The opportunities that are available are second to none, with projects in many world, international and national racing series. Outside of motorsport we work in internationally renowned high-performance sports areas, and in cutting edge general automotive projects. Our engineers don’t get pigeon-holed, we want well rounded, experienced engineers that are adaptable and always willing to take on new, exciting tasks.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience of working in the automotive, aerospace, high technology, or motorsport industries. They will have lead projects with high levels of authority and responsibility. Ideally you will be able to demonstrate engineering skill, and exposure to both the mechanical design environment and pre-preg CFRP composite component design. You will work with enthusiasm, self-motivation, and tenacity, and can guide junior engineers tasked as part of your team to deliver clear goals on time and on budget.

Senior Design Engineer reporting to the Engineering Director.


The job is based at D2H Design’s office in Buckingham. Upon occasion, meetings off site at clients or suppliers will be required, and possible visits to support tests / clients.

Summary of Tasks

The successful candidate will be tasked with leading design projects and packets of work, for clients and within the company. They will also work as a senior engineer as part of a larger team taking direction from the Engineering Director or the Group Technical Director, or working with our engineers in D2H Aero. The work can span from initial concept and feasibility studies through to complete design and final delivery of finished components to clients.

Main Duties

  • Using appropriate 3D CAD software (Catia V5 or Siemens NX10)
  • Carrying out Design and Engineering studies both on CAD and by hand
  • Carrying out FEA studies on components or assemblies
  • Leading small design teams on projects, reporting to the Engineering Director, and Group Technical Director on progress and engineering targets
  • Mentoring junior and graduate design engineers
  • Liaising with clients and suppliers in a professional manner


Skills & Qualifications

  • At least 3 years industry experience in a position of responsibility, ideally around 4-6 years experience
  • Experienced user of either Catia V5 or Siemens NX10 at an advanced level (NX is preferred)
  • Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Experience or exposure to FEA software (ideally Altair Hyperworks)
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A methodical approach to problem solving.
  • Experience of managing project work
  • An appreciation of wider engineering skills & processes (outside of their chosen field of study)
