Job Summary:

Performance Engineer within the Vehicle Performance Group based in Begbroke.

The role provides support to the Race and Test Teams to optimise car performance at events, involving cross-functional collaboration with Control Systems, Race Engineering, Simulation and Vehicle Performance groups.

This role will require some travel to Race and Test events.

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • To attend Race and Test events as required
  • Working in conjunction with the Vehicle Performance Group and the Systems Group to extract maximum performance from both car (mechanical and aero) and driver
  • Use dedicated data acquisition software and additional analysis techniques to analyse and optimise car performance in all areas of chassis and powertrain
  • Work in conjunction with the Race Engineers to define the car setup
  • Play a central part in the optimisation and control of the energy usage on the car
  • Oversee and conduct rig testing of chassis and suspension assemblies (e.g. 7-PR, Damper Dyno)
  • Work with Race and Test drivers during DIL simulator sessions
  • Assist in the addition of items onto the Development List and progress chasing of said list
  • To compile detailed technical event reports

 

Qualifications, skills and experience required

  • Degree educated (Mechanical / Motorsport / Automotive Engineering)
  • Previous experience in a performance engineering environments (motorsport)
  • Has both the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment
  • A thorough understanding of vehicle dynamics and the controlling parameters of car balance
  • A thorough understanding of ride dynamics and damper optimization
  • A thorough understanding of how an aero map should be interpreted and the car optimized around this data
  • A base understanding of closed and open loop control systems
  • An understanding of high voltage electrical powertrain performance factors would be beneficial, however your willingness to learn the various performance aspects of electrical powertrains will be fundamental
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal) (English language a must)
  • Ability to handle pressure and work at pace
  • The ability to work methodically with attention to detail
  • High integrity with commitment to good governance

Flexibility to travel to and to work from different UK sites (car driver preferable) and to other global sites as required.
