No.1 Test Team Mechanic – BMW i Andretti Motorsport

As an integral part of the Formula E Test team and reporting directly to the Test Team Chief Mechanic, you will be responsible for the Formula E test car build, maintenance and trackside running. The role will require interaction and liaison with all areas of test team Engineering and Operations.

Base: Banbury; ability to work in the UK and abroad.

Min 3 years’ experience in a high level of motorsport required i.e. F1/Formula E/F2/WEC/IndyCar

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the build, operation and running of the Formula E test car under the guidance of the Test Team Chief Mechanic.
  • You will ensure that the car is built consistently to the highest standards, meets the relevant set up parameters and all necessary criteria of the build specification and homologation documents.
  • Follow Engineering procedures and protocols pertaining to assembly, operation and safety.
  • Tracking of part mileage and compliance with any lifing procedures
  • Post running inspection of the test car, reporting condition and any damage to the Chief Mechanic.
  • Recording and feedback of parameters and incidences as they occur or as requested.
  • Support any required rig testing either at factory base or using external facilities.
  • Assisting with management of the flow of components and sub-assemblies between the factory and the track and through the various stages of the servicing.
  • Set up and operation of the garage and associated  infrastructure.
  • Assist Race Team when required.
  • Assumes any responsibilities and duties delegated by the Chief Mechanic or his designee.
  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  • Responsibility for the cleanliness and condition of work areas; the test garage, the factory and all tools and equipment.
  • Follow all safety regulations either in the workshop or trackside.

 

Specialized Knowledge and Skills

  • The ability to consistently work to the highest standards and particularly the attention to detail.
  • You should be comfortable discussing engineering solutions and requirements.
  • Computer knowledge, ideally experience in Microsoft Office products; Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • A solid mechanical aptitude gained in the Motorsport arena.

 

Work Environment and Physical Demands

An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. You will work with a team of engineers and mechanics throughout the build process, undertaking repairs and assembly in a methodical manner whilst adhering to strict homologation regulations and deadlines. The role may require extensive domestic and international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends to ensure project requirements are met.
