Lead Tyre Science Engineer

Mahindra Racing is a motor racing team based in Banbury, United Kingdom, competing with an Indian racing licence. The team is currently competing in the electric FIA Formula E Championship since the inaugural season in 2014.


Role Overview:

Reporting to the Head of Vehicle Performance Group, we require a Lead Tyre Science Engineer to further develop our in-house tyre models and drive vehicle performance through tyre understanding.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Development of tyre models from first principles.
  • Correlation of tyre models to vehicle telemetry and test rig data.
  • Predicting the influence of tyre state on vehicle behaviour.
  • Providing guidance to race engineering for tyre preparation and use.
  • Support, challenge and motivate a diverse team of engineering talent dedicated to tyre and vehicle science.


Qualifications, skills and experience required:


  • A degree in an engineering discipline.
  • A thorough understanding of the physical processes by which a tyre generates grip.
  • Previous experience of tyre modelling and/or tyre performance engineering in a high-level racing environment.
  • Experience of leading a team of engineers in F1 / FE / WEC.
  • Knowledge of Matlab / Simulink.



  • Previous experience with Formula E tyres.
  • Implementation of tyre models for real time operation using C/C++.
  • Previous involvement in race tyre research and development.
