General Summary:

This position reports to the RTS Manager or their designee; is located in in Banbury, UK. Responsible for the assembly, servicing and repair of the teams Race Cars, Heritage Cars, Show Cars, associated parts and pit equipment. Expected to attend all Heritage Car associated events reporting into the Heritage Chief Engineer or their designee when trackside. 

 

General Responsibilities:

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  • Provide day-to-day leadership of the Heritage Mechanic team; direct and coach team members to maximize the team’s performance and oversee daily activities.
  • Mentor, train, and guide personnel as required. Develop staff and department processes to enable efficient workflow.
  • Collaborate and work closely with the RTS Chief Mechanic daily regarding workloads and service requirements on Race Team and Heritage car parts ensuring tight deadlines are adhered too.
  • Responsible for the maintenance and service of all Pit Stop Equipment as well as Off Car Equipment. Set Up Equipment and Tooling that are associated with the Heritage Operation
  • Required to demonstrate a company focused attitude to organize and guide your team whilst keeping moral high under difficult circumstances or tight deadlines.
  • Assist and work with the Parts Coordinators managing the Turnaround and flow of components between the track, factory, and suppliers.
  • Report reliability issues as they occur and seek advice before undertaking any out of the ordinary tasks.
  • Responsibility for the cleanliness and condition of your work area
  • Following Engineering procedures and protocols as dictated by the Haas F1 Team pertaining to assembly, operation, and safety
  • Follow all safety regulations in all venues.
  • Other duties as assigned by the RTS Manager or their designee.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the assembly and build coordination of the team’s Heritage Cars to correct specifications and allocations.
  • Responsible for the parts, spare parts, tooling, garage equipment and other operational equipment associated with Heritage projects and ensuring all equipment is readily available and packed to support relevant events.
  • Lead and Coordinate the Heritage Mechanic’s working in coalition with the RTS Chief Mechanic to ensure seamless parts turnarounds, projects and updates are met on time with correct procedures followed.
  • Align with the Heritage Chief Test Engineer and the Heritage Setup and Transportation Coordinator to ensure all off car equipment is serviced, adequate and packed in anticipation of freight shipping dates.
  • Establish standard operating procedures then ensure a consistent quality of expecting work is met.
  • Ensure the Heritage Mechanics knowledge is in line with that of the Race Team Support & Race Team Mechanics to allow for seamless substitutions and future progression opportunities. This includes staying up to date with all necessary trackside and pit stop procedures.
  • Raise requisitions on behalf of the Heritage Department for specific items needed to conduct tasks, working closely with the RTS Manager to follow budgets whilst managing proposed and actual costs.
  • Work closely with the Design Office and Reliability Engineers on Faults to ensure all actions/remedies are in place and to offer solutions/fixes or plans to ensure there are no repeat occurrences.
  • Have a good understanding of all car parts, process, and procedures.
  • Follow Lifing and UIIL requirements to ensure full compliance is met in line with the regulations and team’s expectations – this includes having the Heritage Car’s built correctly on to relevant lifing systems.
  • Assist and support chosen departments to facilitate Turnarounds, Engineering Projects, Car Builds and Event Support.
  • Assist in the planning and managing of any rig testing throughout the season such as K&C or 7 Post.
  • Ensure the team’s Show Cars and Race Bay presentation meets cooperate branding guidelines and expectations.
  • Undertake NDT training and certification to be able to support on event if required.
  • Support the Race Team and RTS Departments when required.
  • Expected to be able to take part in Pit Stops.

 

Education and Work Experience:

  • GCSE, High School diploma or equivalent required. Further education including trade school, appreciating or university degree desired.
  • A comprehensive mechanical understanding gained in Formula 1 motor racing.
  • Proven experience in Formula 1 as a Number 1 mechanic.
  • At least 4 years’ experience within a Formula 1 motorsport environment, including significant trackside experience.

  • Proficient all round computer skills.
  • A broad mechanical knowledge with an understanding of all disciplines of manufacturing.

  • Knowledge of the correct methods in department disciplines and/or practices.
  • Work to a consistently high standard in stressful and time sensitive situations.

Equipment and Applications:

  • Solid computer knowledge, preferred experience in Microsoft Office products, Microsoft Dynamics AX and 3DX
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to follow complex regulations related to shipment of materials and facility maintenance requirements.

 

Work Environment Physical Demands:

An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require extensive domestic and international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.

 

This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
