Head of Vehicle Performance Group - Endurance Racing


Contract type: Permanent contract

Location: Versailles, France - Min 3 days / week with 2 days home office possible - Extensive travelling to tests and FIA WEC races


Role Overview: 

As the Head of Vehicle Performance group, you will play a pivotal role in optimizing the performance of our racing vehicles to achieve competitive advantage on the track. You will lead a team of performance and strategy engineers in developing, testing, and refining vehicle setups, components, and sub-systems mappings to ensure peak performance in various racing conditions. You will report directly to the technical director.

You will work closely with the race engineering team during events, as well as all the development engineering departments. You will report on overall car performance during events, supply analysis to support the design and controls of all car subsystems, and feedback appropriate development directions to the technical team, for hardware components as for software.

This role requires a deep understanding of vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, powertrain and energy management, race strategy and mechanical engineering principles, coupled with strategic thinking and leadership skills.


Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the development of vehicle setups, configurations, and components to optimize performance in accordance with technical regulations and team objectives.
  • Utilize data analysis tools and techniques to assess vehicle performance, identify areas for improvement, and develop strategies for enhancing overall performance.
  • Plan, organize, and oversee testing programs to validate performance enhancements, including "driver in the loop" simulator sessions, and ensure consistency of vehicle performance under different conditions.
  • Collaborate with aerodynamicists and engineers to develop aerodynamic packages that enhance vehicle stability, downforce, and drag characteristics to maximize performance on the track.
  • Supervise race strategists to develop race strategies and tools that leverage the vehicle's performance capabilities and exploit opportunities for competitive advantage during races.
  • Provide technical guidance and leadership to a multidisciplinary team of engineers and technicians, fostering collaboration and innovation to drive continuous improvement in vehicle performance.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies, trends, and innovations in motorsport engineering, and lead research and development efforts to integrate new technologies and techniques into vehicle performance optimization strategies.


Requirements, knowledge and skills: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
  • Extensive experience (8+ years) in motorsport engineering, with a focus on vehicle performance optimization and development.
  • Deep understanding of vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, and mechanical systems, with demonstrated expertise in applying engineering principles to enhance vehicle performance.
  • Proven track record of leadership and team management, with experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams in a fast-paced motorsport environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and develop effective performance enhancement strategies.
  • Proficiency in engineering simulation and analysis tools, such as cad data analysis, Matlab/Simulink, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and vehicle dynamics simulation software.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills in both English (min level C1) and French (min level B2)
  • Works methodically with attention to detail.
