General Summary: 

This position reports to the Deputy Chief Designer or his designee; is located in Parma, Italy. Responsible for consulting and advising business partners on structural design and best practices. Assist a group of designers to quantify and improve the quality and the reliability of the structural and non-structural components. Interacts and communicates with Program and Department Managers as it relates to car design and development.


 Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments
  • Lead concept development in relation to structural design and creative outputs
  • Ensure that structural/FEA projects are delivered on time as per the agreed planning
  • Liaise with Race Team concerning reliability and relevant design revision
  • Develop structural group workload plans in consultation with business partners
  • Develop test plans and complete testing, if needed, on parts to make them “race-ready”
  • Analyze parts and assemblies for use on the race cars using 3D Modeling Software
  • Assists with the performance of finite element analysis using software to test part worthiness and ensure that design parameters are met
  • Assumes any responsibilities delegated by the Deputy Chief Designer
  • Performs research and development functions
  • Follow all safety regulations in all venues
  • Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief Designer


 Education and Work Experience:

BS in Mechanical Engineering required. Typically requires at least five years of experience in the F1 industry with diverse design experience, including the hybrid era. Typically requires at least four years of 3D modelling and FEA – analysis software experience. In particular knowledge of Hypermesh, Hyperview, Optistruct, Abaqus and laminate tools. Some composite experience is also a plus. Supervisory and leadership experience is desired.


Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Proficient computer skills with knowledge of 3D modeling software
  • Knowledge of composite and machine shop processes
  • Knowledge of materials and properties of materials.
  • Knowledge of Hypermesh, Hyperview, Optistruct, Abaqus and laminate tools
  • Composite inclined
  • Strong verbal and written computer skills with ability to speak English and Italian fluently


 Equipment and Applications:

  • Computer, 3D modeling – analysis software
  • Microsoft Office suite, in particular Microsoft Excel
  • Mathematics and basic hand tools


Work Environment Physical Demands:

An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require occasional domestic and international travel a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.

This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
