PURPOSE:  The Head of Electronics (HE) role involves working on a wide variety of projects within our systems and data electronics group. HE will be responsible for the specification, design, test, and calibration of our electrical and electronic components. HE will work on RLL’s on and off car systems, test rigs and equipment, as well as producing the required documentation and procedures to suit. HE will be required to carry out fault investigation and resolution of allocated issues. HE will be working with various disciplines across the electronics design function and will be required to lead and mentor other engineers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintains the overall responsibility for safety, reliability, and performance of the electronics systems on the car, pitlane and factory.
  • Organize and lead the following functions within the engineering group:
  • Car wiring systems, hybrid and HV systems (including battery), data logger and sensors, telemetry systems, radios, timing stand and support equipment.
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of electronics design including digital, analogue, power and high-temperature electronics.
  • Accuracy, attention to detail, and efficiency in analysis and reporting is a must
  • Extensive travel (>50%), including team tests, races, and other events as directed
  • There will be periods of long hours, including endurance events lasting twenty-four hours.
  • Understand and compliance of IMSA HV operations and safety compliance.  

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILLS:

Required:

  • BS in applicable engineering field such as Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, and/or, Computer
  • Minimum 3 years of engineering experience in professional motorsport with a focus on performance, data acquisition, vehicle simulation, testing, or design
  • HV safety training.
  • Attention to detail, organized, and able to multi-task in fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to handle pressure and deliver under tight time constraints

Preferred:

  • Previous high level motorsport engineering experience
  • Control systems operation and programming
  • Working knowledge of CAD
  • Personnel and project management skills
  • Leadership, teambuilding, and mentoring skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects in various stages simultaneously
