General Summary:

This position reports to the Deputy Chief Designer or his designee; is located in Parma, Italy. Consults and advises business partners on composite design and best practices.  Directs a group of designers to quantify and improve the quality and the reliability of the composite components.  Interacts and communicates with Program & Department Managers as it relates to car design and development.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments
  • Provides leadership and guidance to Composite Design Group (Chassis / bodywork /  floor / wings)
  • Ensure that composite projects are delivered on time as per the agreed planning
  • Liaise with Race Team concerning reliability and relevant composite design revision
  • Develop composite design group workload plans in consultation with business partners
  • Develop test plans and complete testing, if needed, on parts to make them “race-ready”
  • Designs parts and assemblies for use on the race cars using 3D Modeling Software
  • Coordinates the manufacture of parts if needed, through various vendors including machine shop, composite shop, etc.
  • Follows and enforces all safety regulations in all venues
  • Other duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief Designer.


Education and Work Experience:

BS in Mechanical Engineering required. Typically requires at least five years of work experience, in the F1 industry with diverse design experience, including the hybrid era. Typically requires at least 4 years of 3D modeling software experience. Some FEA experience is also a plus. Supervisory and leadership experience desired.


Specialized Knowledge and Skills: 

  • Excellent organization and ability to manage multiple projects
  • Ability to lead composite design projects from concept to completion
  • Ability to advise and develop composite employees
  • Proficient computer skills with knowledge of 3D modeling software
  • Knowledge of composite and machine shop processes
  • Knowledge of materials and properties of materials
  • Knowledge of Creo and Catia
  • Composite inclined
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to speak English fluently,  and preferably fluency in Italian


 Equipment and Applications: (Specific equipment/applications used on the job)

  • Computer, mathematics, and basic hand tools
  • 3D modeling software
  • Microsoft Office Suite, emphasis on Microsoft Excel


Work Environment Physical Demands:

An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require occasional domestic and international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.

This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast-paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
