Head of Chassis Dynamics


Role Overview:

Primary function is to oversee & coordinate the design/packaging of a typical Formula E Rear Suspension leading a small team of Suspension Design and Multibody Analysis engineers.


Main Responsibilities:

  • Define, Drive & Optimize the (Rear) Suspension Package/Layout within the given constraints of the FIA Formula E Technical Regulations in close co-operation with our selected technical partners and suppliers.
  • Guarantee the correct implementation of the fundamentals of vehicle dynamics into the initial design process by using typical Multibody Analysis and Structural FEA tools, validated with Objective Test Data.
  • Interact/Co-Operate with the Race Team, the Electronic Systems & DIL/HIL Simulation Department, the Mechanical Design Department and Performance Engineering.


Qualifications, skills and experience required:

  • Degree level academic background in engineering, computer sciences or related academic subject
  • Extensive experience in the automotive area of suspension design & vehicle dynamics.
  • Excellent Multibody Analysis Tool knowledge, good FEA tools & CAD skills.
  • Good understanding and application of Matlab or other similar simulation software is a plus.
  • Experience with 3D multi body drive simulators is beneficial.
  • Rich knowledge on Suspension Architectures, well connected and respected within the vehicle dynamics community.
  • Previous motorsport experience is not essential but highly recommended.
  • Embraces the concept of Benchmarking, works to defined targets and is fully familiar with the automotive VDS – cascading, design & development process.
  • Understanding High Voltage Electrical Powertrain Performance Factors is beneficial, willing to learn the various performance aspects of Electrical Powertrains is fundamental.
  • Has the functional, technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment.
  • Practical approach by using rigorous logic and methods to solve problems with effective solutions.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Works methodically with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates alignment to our Company values; Honesty, Care, Vision, Action; works well in a team and respects others.
  • Leads by example, can and will motivate his team & peers.
  • Personal flexibility to work hours as required including from time to time working in weekends.
  • Occasional travelling to technical partners, suppliers & test events.
