Position: Faults and Build Specification Engineer

Department: Race Engineering

Location: Oxford

Reports to: Chief Race Engineer

 

Main Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safe and reliable running of all Formula E chassis.
  • The proper documentation of all faults and their proposed and actual solutions to ensure the Faults Data Base is a live document available to all within the organisation.
  • Progress chase all faults both internally and externally to ensure their proper resolution in a timely manner.
  • Work in conjunction with the Key Stakeholders within Nio to ensure all fault solutions are fully signed off both in terms of proposed solution and the final execution.
  • Working in conjunction with suppliers to pre-empt new faults based on the experience accumulated within the team.
  • Take a lead role in the development of the faults reporting system to the highest standard.
  • Issue Build Specs for both on site and off site (including circuit, 7 post rig, K&C etc) for both race and test events.
  • Working with the Race Engineers, Test Engineer and Chief Mechanic to progress chase the car build and ensure the cars are built to the highest possible standards whilst complying with the spec.
  • Play a central role in the new car build (create build spec, progress chase new parts, technical support, problem solving/tracking).
  • Be a key member of the factory support team during a race event. This will involve being present at the factory during a race weekend and completing/issuing such reports as are required by the Race Team.

 

Qualifications, skills and experience required:

  • Degree level academic background in engineering, computer sciences or related academic subject
  • At least 5 years of experience in the relevant automotive/motorsport areas
  • Basic CAD skills, good understanding of technical drawings and development tools & methodologies
  • Rich knowledge of materials and their specific characteristics and properties
  • Previous motorsport experience is not essential but highly recommended, preferably not limited to single seaters only
  • Experience in design of metal & composite structures is highly sort after
  • Understanding High Voltage Electrical Powertrain Components is beneficial, willing to learn the various aspects of Electrical Powertrains is fundamental
  • Has both the functional and technical knowledge and skills to do the job at a high level of accomplishment
  • Takes a practical approach and uses rigorous logic and engineering methods to solve problems with effective and robust solutions
  • Effective written and oral communication skills in English
  • Demonstrates alignment to our Company values; Honesty, Care, Vision, Action; works well in a team and respects others
  • Personal flexibility to work hours as required including from time to time working in weekends
  • Occasional travelling to technical partners, suppliers & test events
