Engine Development Engineer

Success at Le Mans combined with our major new car programmes, both on the track and off-road, has resulted in development engineering opportunities in our motorsport business.

We are now recruiting an Engine Development Engineer to assist and lead in the design and development of race engine’s and engine components including auxiliary systems, chain drive systems, valve train components, oil systems, induction systems and exhaust systems in line with engine performance and durability targets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead development projects to achieve engineering objectives within a short time scale and cost boundaries
  • Devise, organise and occasionally carry out development tests including but not limited to:
    • Engine dyno tests, durability tests, team engine signoff and calibration
    • 1D gas dynamic simulation studies from GT power
    • Torsional vibration studies using high speed loggers and analysis software
    • Valve train dynamic studies using rig testing/high speed loggers
    • Organise other development tests including airflow rigs
  • To set specification of development test parts
  • To provide track side engine support and perform engine pool planning, ensuring engines are operated within strict guidelines
  • Analysis of test data and preparation of formal reports

Key Attributes and Skills:

  • At least 4 years of previous experience in engine development supported with a degree in an engineering discipline
  • Coach, lead and manage other engineers to achieve engine group goals
  • A good understanding of internal combustion race engine fundamentals
  • Experience of running, calibrating an engine on the dyno
  • Good understanding of electronics, competent user of test equipment
  • Be willing to travel to race events
